Citation Building Basics

What a Citation Actually Is

A citation is simply a mention of a business's name, address and contact details somewhere on the web, whether in a directory, a listing or an article. Taken together, these mentions form a picture of a real, established business.

The picture is only as good as its consistency. Mentions that agree reinforce each other; mentions that contradict undercut the whole impression, however many there are.

Accuracy Before Quantity

It is tempting to chase a large number of mentions, but a smaller set of accurate, consistent ones does more good than a pile of sloppy entries pulling in different directions.

The groundwork, then, is not volume but care: get the core details right, keep them the same everywhere, and let the consistency, rather than the count, do the reassuring.
